There are advantages to all three types of housing but the popular choice for families on a budget is the townhome, and there are good reasons for it. One of the main reasons is that it is possible to have a yard with a townhome, but not with a condo.

Not As Much Maintenance To Do

If you buy a detached home with a yard you are going to have to do all the maintenance on that yard by yourself. This means cutting the grass, doing the weeding, gardening, shoveling snow off the walkway and driveway, and repairing the stairs or driveway cracks.

If you buy a townhome, however, most of this work is already covered for you with your homeowner's association fees. When you buy a townhome, you will pay that complex's HOA fees to cover the cost of the complex's maintenance. While many townhome complexes don't have the same size yards as detached houses do, they usually are big enough to hold a family barbecue or gathering. If you wish for a larger space, you will find many townhome complexes offer a community space with plenty of green grass, BBQ area and even playgrounds for the kids.

It's also a great way to get to know your neighbors and make new friends. In some cases, a townhome complex might offer party rooms that include outdoor space for gatherings and special events. There is no need to fill your home with people, simply rent the party room at a discount and enjoy.

Close To Parks

While most townhomes do have a yard that you are sure to enjoy, it might be that you want someplace a little larger to run your dog around, or have your kids play in. Many townhome complexes are built close to parks and other amenites for this reason. They are conveniently located close to stores, restaurants, transit and highways to ensure that almost anything you could need is within a short distance.
